Ballpointpen in space

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they discovered that their ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity.
To overcome this small problem, NASA scientists spent three years and $7 million to develop a pen that would write in zero gravity, upside down, on almost any surface and at any temperature.
(..guess that's why the Russians used a pencil.)
